RQ CEO Welcome

By Lachlan Murray, RQ Acting CEO

We are off and chasing at the new home of Queensland greyhound racing!

Whilst the first meeting at The Q took place in early April, the world-class complex will be officially opened this Saturday evening at its home in Purga.

Saturday’s opening event coincides with the $225,000 Group 1 Ladbrokes Flying Amy Classic, one of the Queensland Winter Greyhound Carnival’s marquee events.

The Q has been years in the making, with earthworks commencing in early 2023, before construction got underway later the same year.

Designed with animal welfare at its core, The Q has already become the envy of greyhound racing jurisdictions across Australia and the world, with the state-of-the-art precinct featuring three tracks – a straight track, a one-turn track and a two-turn track.

We are proud to deliver Queensland greyhound racing’s almost 9,000 participants a permanent home for their sport – one that is a key driver to both the local and state economy.

In FY24 alone, the greyhound racing industry alone contributed more than $50 million in economic value to the Ipswich economy, whilst sustaining around 300 fulltime jobs.

Whether you’re a dyed in the wool racing fan or a casual observer, I’d encourage all locals to come down and pay a visit to The Q, be it this Saturday, or into the future.

Fittingly, the carnival comes to a close as the $1 million Group 1 Brisbane Cup takes centre stage on July 5 – one of the world’s richest and most prestigious races and an event that is not to be missed.

Not only will The Q be renowned as the nation’s premier racing facility, it is also an invaluable multi-use asset that the whole community will no doubt enjoy.

I look forward to seeing you all at The Q this Saturday evening!
